Meta, the company that runs Facebook and Instagram, may face legal issues because of fake ads. Rafal Brzoska, a billionaire from Poland, and his wife are planning to sue Meta. These ads featured Brzoska’s face and provided false information about his wife.
Brzoska said he informed Meta about the problem in July, but the company did not fix it. He and his wife are considering which court to file their lawsuit in. They are thinking about taking action in Europe or the U.S., depending on how the situation develops. They want Meta to not profit from ads that violate their rights and are asking for any money from these ads to be donated to charity.
Last week, the President of the Personal Data Protection Office ordered Meta to stop showing fake ads using Brzoska’s and his wife’s real data and images for three months. A Meta spokesperson said that scammers use every available platform to commit fraud and constantly change their methods to avoid detection. Meta removes scam content as soon as it is discovered.
