The new Echo Spot comes after a long hiatus and doubles up as an alarm clock
Amazon Echo Spot is another Alexa-powered device in its lineup that is getting a new upgrade after many years in the market.
Amazon is expanding its Alexa-enabled smart device lineup with the launch of a new Echo Spot smart alarm clock which also works as a portable speaker. The device has a semi-spherical design with a front-firing speaker beneath a half-circle tinted glass-covered 2.83-inch touchscreen.
It is the device’s first upgrade since Amazon debuted the Echo Spot in 2017. The earlier version had a semi-circular design but featured a full-size display and a camera.

The device is available in three colour variants i.e. Black, Ocean Blue and Glacier White. According to Amazon, users can modify the Echo Spot to match the aesthetic of their room. Customers can choose from six different colourways—orange, magenta, lime, violet, teal, and blue—to select a vibe that fits their style. Also, the users can customise the device’s several clock faces.
Amazon Echo Spot has been launched with a price tag of $79.99 (Rs 6,679 approx). Prime members can purchase the device for USD 44.99 (Rs 3,756 approx) during the Prime Day sale between July 16 and 17. The device is available in selected markets including the US. Amazon has not shared its announced the plan to launch the device in India.
Amazon Echo Spot Features
The newly launched Amazon Echo Spot is equipped with a 2.83-inch touch display with a resolution of 240×320 pixels. It has a customisable alarm clock, weather widget, interface to view song titles and more.
The device also comes with physical buttons to turn on/off the microphone and adjust the volume control. It is powered by Alexa, Amazon’s voice AI, which means users can now ask questions and give commands to the voice assistant. The company has added 10 different response animations that can be triggered with specific prompts such as “Alexa, hello”, “Alexa, goodnight” and “Alexa, how are you”.
Alexa can perform a range of operations, including managing compatible smart home devices, receiving audio drop-ins from other Alexa devices and showing notifications from compatible smart doorbells.
The company has added four new custom alarm sounds i.e. Aurora, Daybreak, Endeavor, and Flutter. Also, it can be snoozed easily simply by tapping the device. Amazon claimed that the new Echo Spot comes with a better display and audio quality.
