    BJD Rajya Sabha MP Resign: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has expelled Rajya Sabha MP Sujit Kumar from the party for involvement in anti-party activities. His resignation has been accepted by Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar.

    This is the second time a BJD MP has resigned from the Rajya Sabha. Previously, Mamata Mohanta resigned from the Rajya Sabha and BJD, joined BJP, and was later re-elected to the Rajya Sabha.

    Expulsion Details

    The official BJD order states that Sujit Kumar has been expelled from the party with immediate effect due to his involvement in anti-party activities. The order emphasizes that he has left the party that sent him to the Rajya Sabha and abandoned the hopes and aspirations of the people of Kalahandi.

    Sujit Kumar’s Resignation Letter

    In his resignation letter, Sujit Kumar wrote, “I am resigning from the Rajya Sabha membership today, September 6, 2024. I have made this decision after careful consideration. I express my heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity to raise important public issues and issues related to my state Odisha in the House. Without your continuous guidance, I would not have been able to perform these duties.”

    Background on Sujit Kumar

    Sujit Kumar was a Rajya Sabha member from BJD since 2020. He also served as the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha’s Petition Committee and worked as the Chief Advisor to the Special Development Council of Odisha and as Special Secretary to the Odisha State Planning Board.
