The rape and murder case of a young doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata has reached the Supreme Court. A letter petition has been submitted to Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, requesting that he take suo motu cognizance of the case.

The letter, written by Ujjwal Gaur and Rohit Pandey, calls for immediate intervention in the brutal rape and murder of a young doctor in Kolkata. It describes the incident as an attack on the soul of the nation and a grave insult to the ideals of justice and humanity upheld by the constitution. The letter highlights the shock and outrage felt by the nation over the horrific way the young doctor’s life was taken. The doctor was dedicated to healing and saving lives, yet suffered such cruelty in the very place where she served humanity.

RV Ashokan mentioned that the brutal treatment of the doctor has enraged doctors across the country. The victim was the only child of a middle-class family. The attack was not carried out by one person but involved several individuals. Ashokan said he does not have the words to describe the brutality of the murder.

The CBI has taken action by detaining and questioning the former principal of RG Kar Medical College. The victim’s father has raised questions about the hospital administration, wondering why no one checked on her between 3 AM and 10 AM when she was on duty.

    What Happened?

On the night of August 8-9, a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata was raped and murdered. The victim was a second-year MD student in the Chest Medicine department. After having dinner with friends at midnight, she went to rest in a seminar hall where the attack occurred.
