Agusta Westland Scam: Court Deliberates on Michel’s Bail, ED Raises Concerns Over Flight Risk

In the Agusta Westland helicopter scam, the Delhi High Court has completed the hearing on Christian James Michel’s bail plea and reserved its judgment.

Christian Michel, accused in the money laundering case linked to the Agusta Westland helicopter deal, faces allegations of acting as an intermediary in the VIP helicopter deal and making large payments to influence the transaction. After both sides presented their arguments, the court decided to reserve its judgment for now.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) strongly opposed Michel’s bail application. The ED’s lawyer argued that the time Michel spent in Dubai should not be counted as part of his custody. The agency also expressed concerns that, as a British national, Michel could flee if granted bail. The ED emphasized that Michel faces serious charges, and granting him bail could interfere with the ongoing investigation.

Bail Plea Based on Expired Passport

Michel’s lawyer countered that there is no risk of him fleeing the country as his passport has already expired. They assured the court that Michel is facing legal proceedings in India and cannot leave the country without court permission. The lawyer further stated that Michel would not attempt to evade the legal process, thus warranting the granting of bail.

Awaiting Court’s Decision

After completing the hearing, the Delhi High Court has reserved its decision. All eyes are now on the court’s ruling, which is expected soon. The Agusta Westland helicopter scam remains a significant political and legal issue, and any decision in this case could have far-reaching consequences.
