In Bihar, there’s growing controversy over the voter list update ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. Several political leaders have raised concerns, and the matter is now also in the Supreme Court. On this issue, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi recently met with the Chief Election Commissioner and expressed strong objections.
🗳️ Owaisi’s Concerns After Meeting Election Commission
After his meeting with the Election Commission (EC), Owaisi said:
- The EC is carrying out this process without discussing it with national parties.
- The BLOs (Booth Level Officers) have not been trained properly, and many don’t even have the required handbooks.
- Because of this, the current process is not being done correctly.
âť“ Owaisi’s Key Questions
Owaisi raised important questions:
- Why is the EC not using the 2024 voter list as the base?
- If people already voted in 2024, why is the EC asking for ID proof again in 2025?
He added that his party will discuss this issue further after the Supreme Court hearing. He also questioned why the time given for this revision is so short.
🧳 Migrant Workers Face Problems
AIMIM leader Akhtarul Iman also said that many people are migrant laborers and do not have documents. This makes it very hard for them to prove their identity again.
⚖️ Supreme Court Steps In
The Supreme Court has taken note of the situation and will hear the case on 10 July 2025. It has also sent a notice to the Election Commission.
So far, five petitions have been filed. Groups and leaders like:
- ADR (Association for Democratic Reforms)
- Yogendra Yadav
- Mahua Moitra
- Manoj Jha
- Mujahid Alam
…have all said that the EC’s process is unfair and may affect the fairness of elections.
