Industry Bodies Step In to Resolve Dispute Over Actor’s Exit From ‘Don 3’
The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has withdrawn its non-cooperation directive against actor Ranveer Singh, bringing an end to a controversy that emerged after his reported departure from the upcoming film Don 3.
The decision was announced on Wednesday after discussions involving key industry organizations, including the Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA), the Producers Guild of India (PGI), and the Cine & TV Artistes’ Association (CINTAA).
Industry Seeks Collaborative Resolution
FWICE President BN Tiwari said the organization decided to revoke the directive with immediate effect following requests from industry stakeholders.
According to Tiwari, discussions are expected to take place among producers, filmmakers, actors, and industry associations to ensure that similar disputes can be handled more effectively in the future.
He emphasized that the development should not be viewed as a victory or defeat for any party, adding that FWICE’s legal team would formally respond to the legal notice sent by Singh.
Background of the Dispute
The non-cooperation order was issued on May 25 after filmmaker and producer Farhan Akhtar and his producing partner Ritesh Sidhwani reportedly raised concerns regarding Singh’s exit from Don 3.
The matter was initially brought before the Indian Film and Television Directors’ Association (IFTDA), which later referred it to FWICE for further consideration.
The highly anticipated film, a new installment in the popular Don franchise, has reportedly been in development for nearly three years. Industry reports suggest that more than ₹45 crore had already been invested in pre-production activities before filming began.
Ranveer Singh Maintains Silence
In response to the controversy, Ranveer Singh’s team released a statement reiterating the actor’s respect for everyone associated with the project and the wider film industry.
The statement noted that Singh deliberately chose not to comment publicly during the dispute, believing that professional disagreements should be addressed with maturity, dignity, and mutual respect rather than through public exchanges.
What Happens Next?
With the non-cooperation directive now withdrawn, the focus is expected to shift toward discussions between industry bodies and stakeholders involved in the project. While there has been no official update regarding the future of Don 3 or potential casting changes, the latest development may help ease tensions surrounding the film.
The resolution also highlights the growing role of industry associations in mediating disputes between actors, producers, and production houses in India’s entertainment sector.
