Five Air Force Personnel Killed as AN-32 Transport Aircraft Meets With Accident in Assam

A tragic aviation accident at an Indian Air Force base in Assam claimed the lives of five Air Force personnel on Saturday after an AN-32 transport aircraft was involved in a mishap during landing operations.

The accident took place at the Air Force Station in Jorhat’s Rowriah area around 10 a.m. The aircraft, which belonged to the Air Force’s 43 Squadron, was approaching the runway when the incident occurred, officials said.

The Indian Air Force later confirmed that all five personnel onboard the aircraft lost their lives. The deceased were identified as Squadron Leader Prashant Singh, Flight Lieutenant Shubham Kumar, Sergeant Jitendra Sharma, Agniveervayu Khemaram Kumawat, and Agniveervayu Danish Alam.

Air Force Launches Detailed Investigation

Soon after the accident, the Indian Air Force announced that a Court of Inquiry would be set up to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Officials have not yet disclosed what may have caused the accident. The investigation is expected to examine technical records, flight operations, and other relevant factors before arriving at any conclusions.

Authorities said more information would be shared after the inquiry progresses.

Security Tightened at Jorhat Airbase

Following the incident, access to the Air Force Station was restricted as emergency teams and defence personnel carried out necessary procedures. Security around the base was strengthened while officials assessed the situation and coordinated response efforts.

The loss of the five air warriors prompted tributes from political leaders and citizens alike.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed deep sorrow over the deaths and paid tribute to the personnel for their dedication and service to the nation. He said their sacrifice and commitment would always be remembered.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also conveyed his condolences to the families of the deceased. He assured that the Assam government was coordinating with defence authorities and would extend all possible assistance if required.
