Delhi Capitals Bring Back Rishabh Pant in Blockbuster Deal, Kuldeep Yadav Moves to Lucknow

A major player exchange ahead of the IPL 2027 season has seen Rishabh Pant return to Delhi Capitals, while Kuldeep Yadav has joined Lucknow Super Giants in a high-profile trade agreement completed on Tuesday.

The move marks a significant shift for both franchises as they look to rebuild and strengthen their squads following disappointing campaigns in IPL 2026.

Pant Reunites With Franchise Where His IPL Journey Flourished

After spending two seasons with Lucknow Super Giants, Pant is set to wear Delhi Capitals colors once again. The wicketkeeper-batter had previously been one of the cornerstones of the Delhi setup, representing the franchise for nearly a decade before entering the IPL 2025 mega auction.

His return comes at a contract value of ₹15 crore, considerably lower than the ₹27 crore that Lucknow invested to secure his services in 2025. At the time, the signing made Pant the most expensive player in IPL auction history.

Despite the massive investment, Lucknow’s gamble failed to produce the expected results on the field.

Lucknow’s Experiment With Pant Fails to Deliver

The Super Giants had envisioned Pant as the face of their project, both as captain and as a match-winning batter. However, the team struggled to compete consistently during his leadership tenure.

Lucknow finished outside the playoff spots in IPL 2025 and endured an even tougher campaign in 2026, ending the season at the bottom of the standings.

Pant’s performances with the bat mirrored the team’s struggles. He was unable to produce the explosive consistency that made him one of the league’s most feared batters, leading to increasing scrutiny over his role within the squad.

Kuldeep Yadav Set for Fresh Challenge at LSG

In exchange, Lucknow have acquired experienced spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who joins the franchise with a reputation as one of India’s most effective white-ball bowlers.

Since arriving at Delhi Capitals ahead of IPL 2022, Kuldeep became an important part of the team’s bowling attack and regularly delivered breakthroughs in crucial moments.

Although his most recent season was below his usual standards, Lucknow believe the wrist-spinner can add variety and experience to their bowling unit heading into IPL 2027.

Delhi Capitals Banking on Familiar Environment

For Delhi Capitals, the acquisition represents more than just a squad addition. Pant remains one of the franchise’s most recognizable faces and enjoys a strong connection with both the management and supporters.

The Capitals will be hoping that a return to familiar surroundings helps the left-hander regain the form that once established him as one of the premier wicketkeeper-batters in world cricket.

With several key changes expected across franchises before the next season, Pant’s homecoming could become one of the defining stories of IPL 2027.

One of the Biggest Trades of the IPL Offseason

Player swaps involving established Indian stars are relatively rare in the IPL, making this deal one of the most significant transactions of the current trade window.

While Delhi Capitals have chosen to reunite with a former captain, Lucknow Super Giants have opted to strengthen their bowling resources with an experienced spinner. The success of the trade will ultimately be judged by how both players perform when the next IPL season gets underway.
