A young Delhi cricketer has found herself at the centre of attention after a memorable celebration during the opening game of the Women’s Delhi Premier League 2026.
Central Delhi Queens leg-spinner Medhavi Bidhuri became a social media sensation after celebrating a wicket with a distinctive “6-7” gesture. The celebration came after South Delhi Superstarz batter Nishika Singh was dismissed in the 16th over.
The catch was completed by Arushi Goel at mid-wicket, but it was Bidhuri’s celebration that caught the attention of viewers. Clips of the moment quickly began circulating online, turning the young spinner into one of the early talking points of the tournament.
The Story Behind Jersey No. 67
There is more to the celebration than a simple viral trend.
Bidhuri had initially hoped to wear jersey number 12. However, since that number was already unavailable, she opted for 67 instead.
According to Bidhuri, the idea for the celebration came from her younger sister. With the “6-7” trend gaining popularity, her sister suggested that she wear No. 67 and use the gesture as her way of celebrating wickets.
What started as a jersey-number choice has now become one of the most recognisable moments from the opening round of the competition.
A Player With Plenty of Domestic Experience
Although the viral celebration has introduced Bidhuri to a wider audience, she is not new to competitive cricket.
The right-arm leg-spinner has been involved with the Delhi domestic cricket setup for several years. She has represented Delhi at the Under-19 level and has also featured in the Delhi Premier League.
Her performances in the previous edition of the tournament showed why she remains a player to watch.
During the 2025 season, Bidhuri played for South Delhi Superstarz. One of her standout performances came in the final against Central Delhi Queens, where she picked up three wickets for 26 runs.
South Delhi Superstarz eventually won that closely fought final by just one run.
Bidhuri was also listed in the 2024 Women’s Premier League auction, reflecting the attention she has received during her domestic career.
Chahal Gives the Celebration Another Moment
The 6-7 celebration received even more attention when Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal appeared to recreate it during a County Championship game in England.
Playing for Northamptonshire against Lancashire at Old Trafford, Chahal dismissed Joe Moores and followed the wicket with a similar gesture.
The moment quickly added to the online buzz surrounding Bidhuri’s celebration.
More Than Just a Viral Moment
Social media attention can sometimes disappear as quickly as it arrives, but Bidhuri’s cricketing journey suggests there is more to her story than a popular celebration.
Her experience in Delhi’s domestic system, performances in the Delhi Premier League and ability to contribute with the ball have already established her as an emerging leg-spinner.
For now, the 67 jersey and 6-7 celebration have made Medhavi Bidhuri one of the most talked-about young players in the Women’s Delhi Premier League. If she can continue producing match-winning performances, her cricket could soon become the bigger story than her celebration.
