Kathua, J&K: Four Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel, including an Assistant Commandant, were killed after a colleague allegedly opened fire at a CISF facility in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Tuesday evening.
The incident reportedly occurred at around 6:40 pm at the CISF camp located at the Sewa Power Project in Mashka village, Basohli.
Four Personnel Die in Shooting
According to information from officials, the victims were Assistant Commandant Ankit Kumar Pandey, Sub-Inspector Lakshman Singh, Constable Rafiq Ahmed and Constable Sandeep Kumar.
The firing reportedly followed an argument among personnel stationed at the site. The accused allegedly entered an office area and fired several rounds from his service weapon.
The suspected shooter has been identified as Head Constable Avdesh Kumar Singh. Officials said he was carrying his issued AK-47 rifle and approximately 150 rounds of ammunition at the time of the incident.
Victims Taken to Hospital
The injured personnel were initially taken for medical treatment at an NHPC hospital in Himachal Pradesh. Despite efforts to save them, all four later died from their injuries.
Following the shooting, police reached the CISF facility and secured the area. The accused head constable was taken into custody and subsequently handed over to the police.
Probe Launched Into Firing
Authorities are now investigating the incident to determine what triggered the confrontation and led to the firing.
Investigators are expected to examine statements from personnel present at the camp and other available evidence as part of the probe.
The Sewa Power Project, where the incident occurred, is a hydroelectric project situated on the Sewa River in the Basohli area of Kathua district.
