Tamil actor Dhanush’s meeting with more than 3,000 women fan club members has drawn attention amid growing speculation about his possible entry into politics. The actor presented traditional Kamakshi Vilakku lamps to attendees as a Deepavali gift.
Tamil actor Dhanush met thousands of women supporters in Chennai on Sunday, October 25, in a gathering organised by his fan organisation, Dhanush Narpani Iyakkam. More than 3,000 women executives and volunteers reportedly attended the event, travelling from different districts across Tamil Nadu.
The meeting comes amid increasing speculation about the actor’s political future, particularly after his fan club was renamed the Dhanush Narpani Iyakkam, or Dhanush Welfare Movement.
Although the gathering has fuelled discussions about a possible political debut, Dhanush has not made any official announcement regarding his entry into politics.
Traditional Kamakshi Lamps Given as Deepavali Gifts
One of the main highlights of the gathering was Dhanush’s decision to gift Kamakshi Vilakku lamps to the women attending the event.
The traditional South Indian oil lamp is associated with Goddess Kamakshi, a form of Goddess Parvati, and is considered a symbol of prosperity, peace and good fortune. The gifts were presented ahead of the upcoming Deepavali celebrations.
Dhanush arrived at the venue at around 3 pm, after initially being expected earlier in the day. He interacted with the attendees and posed for photographs with several supporters.
The event was held at a private engineering college in Semmenchery, on the outskirts of Chennai. Despite heavy rainfall, women representatives from several districts turned up for the meeting.
The organisers also arranged food for the guests, including a range of vegetarian dishes and a separate option for those who preferred non-vegetarian meals. Dhanush’s sisters were also seen interacting with attendees.
Fan Club Renamed Dhanush Narpani Iyakkam
The meeting follows an organisational change announced earlier this month. On October 14, executives formally approved the renaming of Dhanush Fans Clubs to Dhanush Narpani Iyakkam during a meeting in Coimbatore.
The organisation also introduced a new logo featuring the actor’s image within a red star and a circular red-and-white border.
The new name places greater emphasis on welfare activities, prompting discussions about whether the organisation could eventually play a larger role in public life.
Several attendees at Sunday’s gathering expressed hope that Dhanush would enter politics. Supporters said they were ready to back him if he decided to take that step.
However, the organisation’s new name and the large gathering should not be taken as confirmation of a political launch.
Dhanush Has Previously Encouraged Social Welfare Activities
Dhanush has previously urged his supporters to use their collective strength for community service.
At an event in Tiruvallur district on July 27, the actor encouraged fans to participate in welfare initiatives in their neighbourhoods and assist families living nearby. He stressed that fan unity should extend beyond attending film events and be directed towards helping people.
These remarks have added to discussions about the future direction of his fan organisation.
Political Parties Respond to Possibility of Dhanush’s Entry
The actor’s possible political ambitions have also attracted comments from political leaders.
On October 15, former AIADMK minister K. T. Rajendra Balaji said the party would welcome Dhanush if he expressed an interest in joining it.
DMK veteran S. Regupathy also reportedly commented on the possibility of the actor entering politics, stating that anyone has the democratic right to participate in public life. His remarks came amid reports about Dhanush’s alleged visit to Delhi to meet political leaders.
Neither the reported visit nor the comments from political figures establish that the actor has decided to join a political party.
Vijay’s Political Journey Adds to Speculation
Tamil Nadu has a long history of film personalities entering politics. Former chief ministers M. G. Ramachandran and J. Jayalalithaa built influential political careers after establishing themselves in cinema.
Actor Vijay has also brought renewed attention to the connection between the film industry and politics. He launched the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on February 2, 2024, following years of fan-club activities and public engagement.
Against this backdrop, developments surrounding Dhanush’s fan organisation have attracted public interest.
For now, the actor’s political plans remain unconfirmed. His latest meeting has demonstrated the reach of his fan network, but whether the organisation will expand its welfare activities or take on a political role remains an open question.
