Suriya has scored an impressive opening with his latest theatrical release, Scene. The crime thriller, which arrived in cinemas on Friday ahead of the Diwali festivities, has registered a strong response at the box office, outperforming the opening-day numbers of the actor’s previous releases, Karuppu and Vishwanath & Sons.
Directed by Malayalam filmmaker Jithu Madhavan, Scene marks his first Tamil directorial venture. The film features Suriya in the lead role, alongside Nazriya Nazim and Naslen. Early audience reactions have been largely positive, helping the movie build momentum during the festive season.

Scene Day 1 Collection: Tamil Markets Drive the Opening
The Tamil version accounted for most of the film’s domestic earnings. According to Sacnilk, Scene collected approximately Rs 16.15 crore from Tamil-language screenings, while the Telugu-dubbed version contributed Rs 3 crore.
Overseas markets added another estimated Rs 12 crore to the film’s opening-day total.
The release timing could also work in the film’s favour. With the Diwali festive period and the first weekend ahead, the makers will be hoping to maintain strong audience interest and improve the film’s overall theatrical performance.
Suriya Scores His Biggest Opening of 2026
The opening of Scene is particularly significant for Suriya because it has moved ahead of his previous two releases this year.
His May release, Karuppu, directed by RJ Balaji, earned around Rs 15.50 crore on its first day. The Tamil version contributed Rs 13.10 crore, while the Telugu release added Rs 2.40 crore.
Similarly, Vishwanath & Sons, which arrived in August, recorded an opening-day collection of approximately Rs 15.35 crore. It earned Rs 9.15 crore from Tamil screenings and Rs 6.20 crore from Telugu markets.
The comparison shows that Scene has established a stronger opening than both films.
| Movie | India Day 1 Collection |
|---|---|
| Scene | Rs 19.15 crore |
| Karuppu | Rs 15.50 crore |
| Vishwanath & Sons | Rs 15.35 crore |
Jailer 2 and Jana Nayagan Remain Ahead
Although Suriya’s latest film has delivered his strongest opening of the year, it is still behind the top-performing Tamil releases in the same period.
Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 reportedly collected Rs 59.70 crore on its opening day, while Vijay’s Jana Nayagan registered approximately Rs 42.70 crore.
Meanwhile, Karuppu reportedly finished its theatrical run with Rs 310.12 crore, whereas Vishwanath & Sons accumulated around Rs 209.46 crore.
Whether Scene can achieve a similar level of commercial success will depend on its performance over the extended festive weekend and the audience response in the coming days.
