Monday marks five years since the provisions of Article 370, which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, were removed. On this occasion, no new batch of Amarnath pilgrims was allowed to leave for Kashmir from Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu as a precaution. Officials told PTI-Bhasha, “Amarnath Yatra has been postponed for a day as a precaution. No new batch was allowed to leave for Kashmir from Jammu today.”
What did the officials say about this
Officials said that the administration took this step in view of the fifth anniversary of the abolition of Article 370. He said that security arrangements have been increased in the city. The central government had abolished Article 370 on August 5, 2019, which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir. The government had also decided to divide the then Jammu and Kashmir state into two union territories – Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
So far more than 4 lakh pilgrims have visited
This year the Amarnath Yatra started on 29 June and will end on 19 August on the day of Raksha Bandhan. So far more than 4.90 lakh pilgrims have visited Baba Barfani in the holy cave temple located at an altitude of 3,880 meters in the South Kashmir Himalayas.
