Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s judicial custody has been extended once again. The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi made this decision in the CBI case. CM Kejriwal will now remain in jail until September 3.
Earlier, Kejriwal’s custody was set to end on August 27. However, following a court hearing, his detention has been extended. Kejriwal appeared in court via video conferencing for this hearing. On August 5, the Delhi High Court had rejected Kejriwal’s petition challenging his CBI arrest and instructed him to seek bail from a lower court.
On August 23, the CBI informed the court that approval had been granted to prosecute CM Kejriwal and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislator Durgesh Pathak in the liquor policy case. The CBI also filed a supplementary charge sheet against Kejriwal in court.
Arrest Details
Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21, 2024, in connection with the Delhi liquor scam’s money laundering case. He was then arrested by the CBI on June 26 on corruption charges related to the same alleged scam.
Supreme Court’s Interim Bail
On July 12, the Supreme Court granted Kejriwal interim bail in the ED arrest case. However, he remains in jail for the CBI case.
