Impact of Rain in Shahdol
In Shahdol, Madhya Pradesh, heavy rain on Friday night has disrupted daily life. The intense rainfall has caused rivers and streams to overflow. Shahdol Collector Kedar Singh has announced that schools up to the eighth grade will be closed due to the rain. Continuous rain for six hours has led to flooding in the Murwana River, and water is also flowing over the river bridge, affecting transportation.
Rising Water Levels
Small streams around Shahdol city have also overflowed due to the heavy rain. The Son River’s water level has risen, causing waterlogging in several areas. In response, Collector Kedar Singh has declared a holiday for schools up to the eighth grade today.
Guidelines Issued
The District Collector has issued guidelines for dealing with the heavy rain. It advises against attempting to cross flooded rivers and streams. There is also a warning about electrical safety, advising people not to touch electrical switches with wet hands due to the increased risk of electric shock.
Rainfall Statistics
According to the weather department, Madhya Pradesh has experienced 10% more rain than usual. In eastern Madhya Pradesh, including Shahdol, the increase is 9%, while in western Madhya Pradesh, it is 11%. Although Shahdol had normal rainfall before Friday night, the recent heavy rain has significantly disrupted life.
Traffic Disruptions
With rivers and streams overflowing, transportation has been affected. Vehicles are lined up on both sides of the rivers, waiting for the water levels to recede.
