From October 4, 2025, ICICI Bank customers will no longer need to wait for 2–3 days for their cheques to clear. As per the new guidelines of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the same-day cheque clearing facility will now be available. ICICI Bank has informed its customers that by using email-based clearance and Positive Pay feature, the cheque settlement process between two banks will become faster, and cheques will clear within one working day.

How Positive Pay Feature Works

RBI is introducing the Positive Pay feature in two phases, with the first phase starting from October 4, 2025.

Earlier, banks used to physically send cheques from one branch to another for clearance, which caused a delay of 2–3 days. Under Positive Pay, the cheque will be scanned and shared digitally between banks. If all details match correctly, the cheque will be cleared on the same day.

For cheques above ₹50,000, ICICI Bank will add an extra layer of checking to reduce the chances of fraud. The bank will verify details like account number, cheque number, payee name, issue date, and cheque amount before processing.

Things to Remember for Same-Day Cheque Clearance

To make sure your cheque clears on the same day, you must:

  • Write the correct date on the cheque.
  • Fill in the payee’s name and amount carefully.
  • Avoid overwriting or cutting on the cheque.
  • Ensure your signature matches the one registered in the bank.
  • For cheques above ₹5 lakh, using the Positive Pay feature will be mandatory. Otherwise, the cheque will not be cleared.

This change will bring faster transactions and more security, making banking easier for ICICI customers.
