The Kolkata rape and murder case at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has sparked a political battle. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is criticizing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders over this issue, while TMC is fighting back against the BJP.
On Thursday, September 5, TMC leaders held a joint press conference where West Bengal Minister Shashi Panja responded to the allegations. She said, “Politics should not be done over someone who is no longer with us.”

What Was Said About the Money Offer?
Several videos have gone viral on social media, claiming that the Kolkata police offered money to the victim’s family. Minister Shashi Panja addressed these claims, saying, “There are videos where it is alleged that the victim’s parents were offered money. Recently, another video surfaced in which the victim’s parents called these videos fake. False stories are being created.”
Avoid “Vulture Politics”
Shashi Panja added, “We want justice in this case, and there should be no pressure on the family. Political parties should not try to gain political advantage from this situation. This is not the time for vulture politics over a body. The CBI is investigating the case, but some political parties are only focused on using this issue for their benefit.”
What Were the Allegations?
BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul shared a video on social media platform X, stating that the victim’s parents exposed the Kolkata police. She questioned, “Did the police offer money to the victim’s father while the body was still in the house? The parents wanted to keep the body safe, but the police pressured them to perform the last rites. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee must answer these questions, or she won’t be forgiven.”
Accusations Against Kolkata Police
BJP leader Locket Chatterjee said, “Initially, the Kolkata police summoned people for spreading fake news, but now it seems they are spreading fake news themselves. There should be an inquiry into Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s involvement. Evidence has been destroyed, and this is an organized crime. Sandeep Ghosh, who was given a clean chit earlier, is now in custody. How is that possible? This seems to be the work of the government, with links going up to Mamata Banerjee. Sandeep Ghosh was running a racket involving organ and body parts, and they were also taking bribes to help students pass exams. The entire team is involved, and it’s connected to Kalighat (Mamata Banerjee’s residence).”
