Heart Attack Vs Heart Failure: The risk of heart diseases is increasing rapidly worldwide. In recent years, people of all ages have been affected by these conditions. According to some studies, the number of heart disease cases and related deaths has increased since the COVID-19 pandemic. In India, the risk of heart attack and cardiac arrest has risen among people under 30 years old.

Every year, a large number of people lose their lives due to heart failure and heart attacks. Both conditions are extremely dangerous and affect the heart in different ways. However, many people mistakenly believe that heart failure and heart attack are the same. If you also think this, it’s time to clear up this misconception.

Myth: Heart attack and heart failure are the same.

Fact: Health experts say that heart attack and heart failure are two different heart conditions. A heart attack, also known as myocardial infarction, occurs when there is a sudden reduction in blood flow to a part of the heart or when blood circulation is blocked for some reason. Issues in the arteries, high cholesterol levels, or high blood pressure can increase the risk of a heart attack. If identified in time, a heart attack can be treated and the person’s life can be saved. On the other hand, heart failure, also known as congestive heart failure, happens when the heart cannot pump blood effectively. Unfortunately, there is no cure for heart failure.

Myth: Heart attack is more dangerous than heart failure.

Fact: A heart attack can be treated if the patient receives proper medical care in time. Early interventions like CPR are very effective in saving lives. However, there is no cure for heart failure. Treatment for heart failure usually focuses on managing the symptoms and slowing down the progression of the condition.

Myth: Only older men get heart attacks.

Fact: A heart attack can happen at any age, even to young people. Women can also experience heart attacks, and their symptoms may be different from those of men.

Myth: High blood pressure and high cholesterol are the only causes of heart attacks.

Fact: There are several causes of heart attacks, including smoking, diabetes, obesity, and stress. After a heart attack, patients should rest and adopt a regular exercise routine and a healthy lifestyle. With proper care, patients can recover in a few weeks and return to their normal lives after heart surgery.
