New Cyclone Threat Looms Over Andhra Pradesh, Landfall Expected on November 3

Andhra Pradesh could face another major weather threat as a fresh cyclonic system develops over the Bay of Bengal. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that the system may intensify into a severe cyclonic storm before reaching the state’s southern coastline on November 3.

The possible landfall comes just days after Cyclone Arnab affected Andhra Pradesh and Odisha on October 28, raising concerns about another spell of severe weather along the eastern coast.

According to the weather department, the approaching system could produce sustained winds of 100 to 110 kmph. Wind gusts may reach up to 120 kmph when the storm crosses the coast.

Bay of Bengal System Expected to Gain Strength

The IMD reported that a depression had formed over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas near the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The system was moving in a west-northwest direction at approximately 30 kmph. At 5:30 pm on Saturday, it was positioned around 960 km east-southeast of Chennai and nearly 980 km southeast of Visakhapatnam.

Weather officials expect the depression to become a deep depression, followed by a cyclonic storm on November 1. It could further strengthen into a severe cyclonic storm by November 2 as it moves towards the west-central Bay of Bengal.

Coastal Districts May Experience Strong Winds

The IMD’s current projection suggests that the storm could approach the south Andhra Pradesh coastline during the early hours of November 3.

The system is likely to make landfall between Nellore and Narsapur by the morning. The expected wind speed of 100–110 kmph, along with gusts of up to 120 kmph, could affect coastal areas.

Residents in vulnerable locations should remain alert and keep track of weather warnings issued by the authorities.

Rain Forecast for Parts of Odisha

The developing cyclone may also influence weather conditions in neighbouring Odisha.

The IMD has predicted light to moderate rainfall or thunderstorms in a few districts of the state. Manorama Mohanty, Director of the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, confirmed that officials were closely tracking the system.

Weather Department Keeps Close Watch

The latest forecast has put coastal weather conditions under close observation, particularly because the region recently experienced the impact of Cyclone Arnab.

The storm’s intensity, direction and exact landfall location will become clearer as it moves closer to the Indian coastline. Residents are advised to follow official IMD updates and comply with safety instructions issued by local administrations.

The weather department is expected to issue further updates as the system develops over the Bay of Bengal.
