Deepika Padukone, who is expecting her first child, has been receiving immense praise for her portrayal of Sumathi in the Nag Ashwin-directed Kalki 2898 AD. The film has set the cash registers ringing at the box office with its thunderous run in theaters. Her husband, Ranveer Singh, has been completely blown away by seeing Deepika play the character of a pregnant woman, flaunting her full-grown baby bump on the big screen.
“It’s really trippy to see a movie like this where her character is pregnant and she’s pregnant and it’s like… What’s happening?” Ranveer says in a video shared by Deepika on her Instagram.
In the video, Deepika also shares her reaction to the audience’s love and appreciation for her character. “I don’t know what to feel. I’m just a bit overwhelmed with the reactions.”
The video then shows viewers giving positive responses to Kalki 2898 AD and sharing how they are eagerly waiting to watch part two of the film. Deepika is also seen happily posing for photographs with her fans.
At the end of the video, Deepika is seen in a lift with Ranveer and says, “The real review will come now when we go home.”

A few days ago, Ranveer posted his review of the movie, praising the entire team, including his wife, Deepika Padukone. He began his review by saying, “Kalki 2898 AD – a grand cinematic spectacle! That’s what big screen cinema is all about! An unprecedented level of finesse in technical execution. The very best in Indian cinema.”
Congratulating director Nag Ashwin, he wrote, “Congrats to Nagi Sir & team! @nag_ashwin,” and went on to praise Prabhas and Kamal Haasan, mentioning, “Rebel Star rocks! @actorprabhas Ulaganayagan is forever supreme! @ikamalhaasan.” When talking about Amitabh Bachchan, who plays Ashwatthama in the film, Ranveer said, “And if you are a die-hard Amitabh Bachchan fan like me… you just can’t miss this! @amitabhbachchan.”

Ranveer then expressed his admiration for his wife Deepika Padukone’s performance as Sumathi. He wrote, “As for my baby @deepikapadukone … You elevate every moment with your grace & dignity. Such poignancy, such poetry, such power. You are beyond compare. I love you.”
Kalki 2898 AD is now inching closer to the Rs 600 crore mark in India while globally it has breached the Rs 900 crore mark. The movie also stars Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan in lead roles. It features impressive cameos by Vijay Deverakonda, Dulquer Salmaan, Mrunal Thakur, Ram Gopal Varma, and SS Rajamouli.
