IPL 2025: On Monday, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by 12 runs. Captain Rajat Patidar played a brilliant innings of 64 runs and was awarded the Player of the Match. Virat Kohli also played well, scoring 67 runs. However, despite this big win, Patidar had to face a major setback — BCCI fined him ₹12 lakh.
Why was Patidar fined?
The fine was imposed because RCB bowled their overs too slowly during the match against Mumbai. According to IPL’s Code of Conduct Article 2.2, this was the team’s first slow over-rate offense of the season. So, as per rules, captain Rajat Patidar was fined ₹12 lakh.
Patidar’s Winning Knock
After Phil Salt got out early, Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal built a strong partnership of 91 runs. Later, Kohli and Patidar added 48 runs together. Kohli scored 67 off 42 balls before getting out.
Rajat Patidar batted aggressively, scoring 64 runs off just 32 balls, hitting 4 sixes and 5 fours. His powerful innings helped RCB set a big target of 222 runs for MI.
MI Almost Chased the Target
Mumbai started poorly but Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya brought them back into the game with explosive batting. In the last 2 overs, MI needed 28 runs.
In the 19th over, Josh Hazlewood dismissed Hardik Pandya on the very first ball, shifting the game in RCB’s favor. Then, in the final over, Krunal Pandya bowled brilliantly, defended 19 runs, and took 3 wickets, sealing the win for RCB.
