Vinesh Phogat Bajrang Punia Join Congress: Indian wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia have joined the Congress party ahead of the Haryana Assembly elections in 2024. They met with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal was also present. Both wrestlers might be included in the party’s candidate list.

Before joining Congress, Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia resigned from their jobs at the Railways on Friday, September 6.

Meetings with Rahul Gandhi

A couple of days earlier, Vinesh and Bajrang met with former Congress President and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi. There were speculations that they might contest the elections on Congress tickets. However, the party has not yet officially confirmed their candidacies.

Possible Seats for Vinesh and Bajrang

It has been rumored that Vinesh Phogat might be given a ticket from her home district, Charkhi Dadri. There is also speculation that she could be fielded from the Jullana Assembly seat, where her in-laws live. Currently, this seat is held by a legislator from the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP).

For Bajrang Punia, there is talk that Congress might offer him a ticket from the Badli seat, which is currently held by Congress. There is also speculation that if Bajrang gets this ticket, the sitting MLA, Kuldeep Vats, might face uncertainty about his future steps.

It is also possible that Congress might not give a ticket to Bajrang Punia but instead assign him a role in election campaigning.
