On August 28, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made a statement about Uttar Pradesh that has stirred political reactions. She said that if there were a fire in West Bengal, it would affect Uttar Pradesh, Assam, the Northeast, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Delhi.
BJP’s Response
BJP spokesperson Rakesh Tripathi criticized Mamata Banerjee, saying she is making such statements to hide her government’s failures. He claimed that Banerjee is siding with criminals and that women in West Bengal are facing continuous violence. He accused her police of being harsh towards those who speak out, rather than taking action against the criminals. Tripathi also said that high courts and the Supreme Court have criticized her, but she continues to try to avoid action against her. He suggested that Bengal’s people have turned against her and that she will be out of power when elections come.
Sanjay Singh’s Criticism
On the issue, SP spokesperson Ameer Jamai said that while the West Bengal incident was shocking, the BJP should not use it for political gain. He criticized the BJP for focusing on political points instead of addressing serious issues like the tragic deaths of two young girls on Janmashtami in Uttar Pradesh. Jamai compared this situation to the infamous Hathras case and accused the BJP of playing politics with such sensitive matters.
