In Pune, Maharashtra, a 26-year-old woman died due to work pressure. Commenting on the incident, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav raised concerns about the increasing workload in the corporate world. He said that the development of any country is based on the balance between work and life. He blamed economic policies for the mental stress faced by employees.
Akhilesh Yadav wrote a long post on the Pune incident, emphasizing the importance of mental health for the nation’s progress. He pointed out that when mental health is good, the country will prosper.
Akhilesh Yadav Questions Work-Life Balance
He wrote, “A balanced work-life ratio is a standard for any country’s development. The death of a young woman working in an international company in Pune due to work stress, and the emotional letter written by her mother, has shaken the youth across the country. This is not just about one company or government department. The adverse conditions are the same almost everywhere, though sometimes more or less.”

He added that both the government and the corporate sector should take this letter as a warning and advice. If working conditions are not favorable, how can performance and results be good? More than rules, there is a need to improve economic conditions. The truth is that with unemployment and businesses struggling due to wrong policies and excessive taxes, the pressure is on to make fewer employees do more work. From top to bottom, every employee is under pressure. The root cause of this stress, when viewed broadly, is the failure of economic policies.
Blames Economic Policies
Akhilesh said that the day the government admits its fault and makes positive changes, introduces better economic policies, and makes the tax system logical instead of exploitative, working conditions will improve. From government employees to corporate workers, everyone will see positive changes in their lives.
He further added that only when the country’s mental health improves will progress follow. The government needs to change its thinking and working methods. The focus should be on results, not on working long hours just for show.
The incident involved a young chartered accountant named Anna Sebastian Perayil, who allegedly died due to extreme work pressure in an international company in Pune. Her mother wrote an emotional letter, stating that her daughter’s boss made her work so much that she became overwhelmed by the pressure.
