Sanjay Singh’s Statement on One Nation, One Election: ‘Hold Elections in Delhi Now’

After the central cabinet approved the ‘One Nation, One Election’ bill, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh made a strong statement. He called this proposal a step towards dictatorship.

Sanjay Singh said, “One Nation, One Election is a dictatorial step. Hold elections in Delhi and three states in November. This is a conspiracy to enforce dictatorship in the country. There should also be ‘One Nation, One Education’ in the country. Who is the Home Minister to approve things, as currently discussed in the JPC?”

BJP’s New Slogan

AAP leader Sandeep Pathak criticized the approval of the bill by the central cabinet, calling it BJP’s new slogan. He stated, “This is another empty slogan by the BJP. Some time ago, there were elections in four states, but they only held elections in two (Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir), leaving out Jharkhand and Maharashtra. If you can’t conduct elections in four states at once, how will you conduct ‘One Nation, One Election’?”

He further added, “We are asking for elections in Maharashtra, Jharkhand, and Delhi, but they are not agreeing. If they can’t conduct elections in four states together, how can they hold elections across the whole country at once? This is just a big slogan. What will happen if a government collapses halfway through a 5-year term? Will there be President’s Rule for the remaining time?”

What Arvind Kejriwal Said

On June 15, before resigning as Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal suggested that elections in Delhi should be held in November along with Maharashtra. He also said that he would only return to the Chief Minister’s chair after being re-elected by the people of Delhi.
