After the Waqf Act was implemented in the country, protests started rising in several states — especially in those where the BJP is not in power. Right now, the most tense situation is being seen in West Bengal, where the atmosphere has worsened in many areas.

People are angry about this law, and in the name of protest, violence has also broken out in several places. Political reactions on this issue are coming out quickly. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has also criticised these protests. She called the situation shameful in a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

Hindus’ Homes Are Being Targeted — Priyanka Chaturvedi

In her post, Priyanka Chaturvedi wrote,
“What is happening in West Bengal in protest against this bill is the worst form of polarisation, which in the end harms everyone. The way Hindu families’ homes are being attacked because of the Waqf Bill passed in Parliament is extremely shameful.”

She also said that this law was passed in Parliament with the participation and votes of all parties. Still, it is now being misused as a weapon to attack one community. She added that expressing anger and protesting by taking the law into one’s own hands is cowardly. She hoped that peace and harmony would be restored soon.

According to Priyanka Chaturvedi, if people disagree with a law, it should be challenged through democratic methods — not through violence and by targeting any particular community. Her statement has come at a time when the administration is struggling to control the situation in the state.

Sachin Pilot Also Condemned the Violence

Even though different states have different opinions on the Waqf Act, the increasing unrest in the name of protest is raising concerns. Meanwhile, Congress leader Sachin Pilot also opposed the bill but said that violence of any kind is completely wrong.
