Fairphone Gen 6+ Arrives in the US at $649 With Easy-to-Repair Design

Fairphone has brought its latest smartphone to the US market, giving American consumers another option for those who want a phone designed to last longer. The Fairphone Gen 6+ is now available for $649 and comes with a strong focus on repairability, long-term software support and user-replaceable components.

The unlocked smartphone can be purchased through Fairphone and Amazon, and it works with AT&T and T-Mobile networks.

Fairphone Gen 6+ Specifications

The new Fairphone smartphone features a 6.31-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, offering smoother scrolling and animations. The panel has a resolution slightly above Full HD+.

Powering the device is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor, supported by 12GB of RAM. Storage is set at 256GB, using UFS 3.1 technology, while a microSD card slot provides additional storage flexibility.

The Fairphone Gen 6+ ships with Android 16 and is expected to receive operating system updates through 2032. This extended software support is one of the phone’s key advantages for people planning to keep their device for many years.

Dual Rear Cameras and Minimalist Mode

For photography, the phone comes with a dual-camera setup featuring a 50-megapixel main sensor and a 13-megapixel ultrawide camera.

A fingerprint reader is integrated into the power button for biometric security. Fairphone has also included a dedicated physical switch that lets users activate a minimalist mode designed to reduce distractions and simplify the smartphone experience.

The handset is offered in Cobalt Blue, Horizon Black and Green color options.

Designed for Easy Repairs

Repairability remains the defining feature of the Fairphone Gen 6+.

The phone uses a 4,415mAh removable battery that can be taken out without dealing with adhesive. According to Fairphone, users can replace 12 components themselves, including the screen, USB-C charging port and rear cover.

Many of these parts are held together with screws, allowing owners to carry out certain replacements quickly instead of sending the phone to a repair center.

The modular design also gives users the option to add specialized backplates for accessories such as a wallet, lanyard or finger grip.

What Are the Trade-Offs?

The repairable construction does mean the Fairphone Gen 6+ makes some compromises compared with conventional flagship smartphones.

Its 4,415mAh battery is relatively modest compared with some newer Android phones, while the IP55 rating offers less protection against water and dust than the IP67 or IP68 ratings found on many competing devices.

However, Fairphone’s goal is different from simply competing on specifications. The company is focusing on making smartphones easier to maintain, repair and use for a longer period.

Fairphone Gen 6+ US Price and Availability

The Fairphone Gen 6+ is priced at $649 in the US. It is sold unlocked and is compatible with AT&T and T-Mobile.

With Android 16, long-term software updates, expandable storage and a modular repair-friendly design, the Fairphone Gen 6+ could appeal to consumers who want to avoid replacing their smartphone every few years.
