The official X account of Germany’s President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has reportedly been hacked. The hackers replaced the profile photo with an image of Bihar Government’s Water Resources Department.
What Happened?
So far, the German government has not given any official statement, but media reports suggest that this is not the first time the account has been hacked. Earlier, hackers had changed the profile to resemble Adolf Hitler, the former leader of the Nazi Party.
Several X users first noticed the hack when the username of the account was changed to @adolf_gov. The account bio was updated to “Make Germany Great Again”, a phrase inspired by Donald Trump’s famous slogan “Make America Great Again”.
Bihar Government’s Name Added
The hacked account had 57,000 followers before the incident. BRICS News, an official X account, shared a screenshot confirming that this was indeed the German President’s account. The original username was @FrankWalterGER, but the details were changed.
After the hack, the account was temporarily suspended, but later it was reactivated. This time, the account was renamed to Bihar Government’s Water Resources Department, but the username (@FrankWalterGER) remained the same.
Controversial Posts by Hackers
Hackers also posted an image of Adolf Hitler and Italian dictator Benito Mussolini with a caption:
“Remember: When you stand together, when your goal is one, when your determination is strong, no one can stop you.”
Later, this post was deleted from the account.
Since the hacking incident, the account’s followers have rapidly increased from 57,000 to 59.9K.
