A tragic stampede at New Delhi Railway Station led to multiple deaths. The bodies of the victims were taken to Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital and LNJP Hospital. After medical examination, doctors confirmed the cause of death. They found injuries on the chest and abdomen, along with signs of suffocation. RML Hospital stated that these were the likely reasons for the fatalities.
Details from RML Hospital
RML Hospital’s Medical Superintendent, Dr. Ajay Shukla, spoke to ANI and shared details:
- The hospital received five bodies—four women and one man.
- Three women were aged between 30-35 years, while one was 70 years old.
- The male victim was 25 years old.
- Four bodies have already been handed over to their families.
Injuries of the Survivors
At LNJP Hospital, many injured people had wounds on their lower bodies and fractures. Some victims have been treated and discharged, while others are still receiving medical care from a special hospital team.
Reason for the Stampede
The stampede occurred due to confusion over train announcements. Trains going to Prayagraj were stationed at different platforms, and some were delayed. This led to overcrowding on the platforms and the foot overbridge. Many people started feeling suffocated and lost consciousness. Amid the chaos, the stampede occurred, leading to 18 deaths, including 11 women.
Another reason for the stampede was the sudden change in platform assignments, which added to the panic. The railway authorities have set up a high-level committee to investigate the incident. Meanwhile, the Delhi Police have also taken control of the situation and are actively monitoring the railway station to prevent further mishaps.
