Kabirdham: In a shocking incident, a man murdered his girlfriend and then committed suicide by jumping into a river. The police have arrested the man’s accomplice. On Tuesday, police officials reported that after killing his girlfriend, Ram Ashish Upadhyay jumped into a river and allegedly took his own life. The police from Dashrangpur station have arrested Upadhyay’s accomplice, Raghunath Sahu.
On August 8, the victim’s mother, Savitri Vishwakarma, filed a report at the Dashrangpur police station. She told the police that her daughter had been missing since the evening of July 23.
Victim Was in Contact with Two Men
During the investigation, police discovered that the victim had been in contact with Ram Ashish Upadhyay from Bhilai and Raghunath Sahu from Bemetara. When the police started searching for Upadhyay, he was nowhere to be found. They then went to Sahu’s house in Lolesara village, Bemetara, and questioned him. Sahu told the police that the victim and Upadhyay were renting a room in his house and that they frequently argued.
Murder and Suicide
Sahu revealed that around 3 a.m. on August 1-2, Upadhyay called him urgently, claiming there was a snake in the house. When Sahu arrived, he found the victim’s body on the bed. Upadhyay had strangled her to death. Sahu said that after the murder, Upadhyay drove to Bhilai and brought a Scorpio vehicle. The next day, both of them took the body to Keshkal Valley in Kanker district and threw it into the valley.
Bodies Found
The police recovered the victim’s body based on Sahu’s information and searched for Upadhyay. On Sunday, Bemetara police reported finding an unknown man’s body in the Shivnath River. The body was identified as Upadhyay’s. Police suspect that after murdering the victim and disposing of her body, Upadhyay jumped into the river and committed suicide. The investigation is ongoing.
