An Indigo flight 6E 0573, flying from Kolkata to Bengaluru, had to make an emergency landing at Kolkata Airport after experiencing a technical issue. The engine failed mid-air, forcing the pilot to return to the airport. Thankfully, all 173 passengers and crew members on board are safe.
According to a report by Hindustan Times, on the night of Friday, August 30, an emergency was declared at the Kolkata Airport runway. The Indigo flight, which was headed to Bengaluru, experienced an engine failure mid-flight, leading to an emergency landing at Kolkata Airport. Despite the scare, everyone on board, including the crew, landed safely.
Passenger Claims to See Fire Coming from the Engine
Times of India reported that one passenger claimed to have seen fire coming from the engine, though this has not been confirmed by the airline or airport officials. The passenger, Nilanjan Das, shared with TOI that shortly after takeoff, he heard an unusual noise and saw flames coming from one of the engines. This prompted the plane to turn back towards the Kolkata runway.
Engine Failure Mid-Air, Pilot Reports the Issue
According to an airport authority official, the pilot of Indigo flight 6E 0573 reported an emergency engine failure just minutes after takeoff. This led to an emergency being declared at Kolkata Airport at 10:39 PM. The runway was quickly inspected and cleared for the plane to land from any direction.

The plane, operating on a single engine, safely landed at Kolkata Airport at 11:05 PM. An official stated, “Engine failure is a serious emergency but not uncommon. Thankfully, the plane landed safely.”
