The political debate over the caste census in India has heated up again. After the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) made a statement on the issue, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) also reacted. AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj commented that the RSS is speaking in a roundabout way, like a jalebi (a twisted sweet).
During a press conference, Saurabh Bhardwaj said, “Looking at the RSS’s statement, it seems that the RSS has realized that directly opposing the Dalit community will harm them. That’s why they are twisting their words. The RSS should clearly state whether they support the caste census or are against it.”
What Did the RSS Say?
On Monday (September 2), during a three-day coordination meeting in Palakkad district of Kerala, RSS’s communication head, Sunil Ambedkar, made a statement regarding the caste census. He said, “In our Hindu society, caste and caste relations are sensitive issues. It is a crucial matter for our national unity and integrity, so it should be taken very seriously. This should not be done just for elections or politics but for all welfare activities, especially for those communities or castes that need special attention. If necessary, governments can carry out this work.”

AAP Targets BJP Over Bulldozer Action
On the topic of bulldozer actions, Saurabh Bhardwaj further criticized the BJP, saying, “Three members of the BJP IT cell at BHU (Banaras Hindu University) raped a student. BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh disrespected female wrestlers. BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar raped a poor girl and then her father was murdered. Why wasn’t a bulldozer used on their homes?”
