Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Nishad Kumar on winning the silver medal in the men’s high jump T47 event at the Paris Paralympics. Nishad achieved his second Paralympic medal with a jump of 2.04 meters. PM Modi shared a post on the social media platform ‘X’, saying, “Congratulations to Nishad Kumar for winning the silver medal in the men’s high jump T47 event at the Paralympics. He has shown us all that anything is possible with passion and determination. Every Indian is happy.”

In his event, Nishad finished second behind Roderick Townsend of the USA, who won the gold medal. However, Nishad is not entirely happy with his win. According to Olympic.com, Nishad said after the match, “Last Tuesday, I jumped 2.10 meters in practice, but here I stopped at 2.04 meters. So, I am disappointed. I have been losing to Townsend in the Tokyo (2020 Paralympics), World Championships, and here again in another Olympics, so this silver medal is not making me very happy, but it’s a bit frustrating.”

He added, “I was very confident because I was consistently jumping 2.07, 2.08 meters in training… Of course, I am disappointed, but only God knows why I couldn’t do it today.”

Nishad’s silver medal is India’s seventh overall and third in athletics at the Paris Paralympic Games. Earlier, Preeti Pal won bronze medals in the 100-meter and 200-meter T35 category events.

India’s other four medals came in para shooting. Avani Lekhara and Mona Agarwal won gold and bronze, respectively, in the 10-meter air rifle SH1 category. Manish Narwal (men’s 10-meter air pistol SH1) and Rubina Francis (women’s 10-meter air pistol SH1) won silver and bronze, respectively.

Star para-athlete Nishad Kumar has brought pride to the nation by winning the silver medal. Nishad, who hails from Una district in Himachal Pradesh, has brought joy to his entire district with this achievement.

While many people are visiting Nishad’s home to congratulate him, he is also being praised widely on social media. Earlier, in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, Nishad had also won a silver medal.
