Petition Filed in Supreme Court to Temporarily Stop Air India’s Boeing Flights

A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court, asking to temporarily stop all Air India Boeing aircraft flights. The petitioner has requested a proper safety audit before allowing these planes to fly again. The petition refers to a recent major plane crash in Ahmedabad.

What Happened in Ahmedabad?

On June 12, an Air India Boeing plane going from Ahmedabad to London crashed shortly after take-off. The accident caused the death of 241 people on the plane, and 29 people on the ground. The petitioner claimed that Air India is not following proper safety rules in its operations.

What the Petitioner Said

The petitioner, lawyer Ajay Bansal, said that there should be 13 spot checks before any flight. But according to a DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) report, Air India is not following these checks properly. He also said that even after the Tata Group took over Air India in 2022, the safety situation has not improved.

Personal Experience Shared

Ajay Bansal also shared his own bad experience during a flight from Delhi to Chicago. He said:

  • His seat could not recline
  • The air conditioning was not working
  • The entertainment screen was not working either
When he complained, the airline gave him only ₹10,000 as compensation.

What the Petition Demands

The petition asks for:

  • Strict follow-up of the Aircraft Act, 1934, Aircraft Rules, 1937, and DGCA safety guidelines
  • If needed, new safety rules should be made
  • All Boeing aircraft of Air India should be grounded (stopped from flying) until the safety audit is complete

The court will now look into the matter and decide the next steps.
