Scientists have made an amazing discovery for cancer treatment. They have found a way to reverse cancer cells back into healthy cells. This breakthrough is being called a Molecular Switch. The research was conducted by scientists from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in Daejeon, South Korea.
Biological Professor Kwang-Hyun Cho, who led the research, stated that his team has discovered this molecular switch, which can turn cancer cells back into normal cells. This breakthrough could open the door to new cancer treatments.
How Normal Cells Turn Into Cancer Cells
The researchers explained that a dangerous change occurs when cells reach a specific critical state. They compared it to water turning into steam when boiled at 212°F.
Similarly, when normal cells collect genetic and epigenetic changes, they can become cancer cells. During tumor development, normal cells enter an unstable phase where both healthy and cancerous cells coexist.
How the Molecular Switch Works
Using system biology, researchers analyzed the changes happening inside cells. They developed a model to understand the genetic network controlling cancer growth. This model helped them identify a molecular switch that can reverse the process, turning cancer cells back into normal ones.
This is the first study to reveal how and when cells transform into cancerous tumors.
Future of Cancer Treatment
The researchers believe that this discovery could play a major role in future cancer treatments. The ability to reverse cancer cells back to normal cells may become a revolutionary method in curing this deadly disease.
