After the collapse of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s statue in Sindhudurg, Maharashtra, the political temperature in the state has risen. Leaders of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) are continuously attacking the central government and the BJP. In an exclusive interview with ABP News, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant said that the damage to Shivaji’s statue is the biggest insult to the country.
When asked about the incident in Sindhudurg and the MVA’s plan to protest in Mumbai, despite not receiving police permission, he responded, “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who established Swarajya (self-rule), is a symbol of pride for the country. The damage to his statue is the greatest insult, and it makes me very angry.”

He further criticized the government, saying, “This government has built things only with elections in mind. Look at the parliament building, water is leaking. In the Ram Temple, water is leaking from the roof, and now Chhatrapati Maharaj’s statue is damaged. We have formally requested permission from the police to protest, but we haven’t received any response. Regardless, we will carry out our protest.”
What Did He Say About the Prime Minister’s Apology?
When asked about the Prime Minister’s apology during a rally in Palghar on Friday, Sawant questioned the sincerity behind it, saying, “Did he apologize because of the elections? For the last 7-8 years, I have been demanding in parliament that a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj be erected at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus station, which is the headquarters of Central Railway. But no one has paid attention to this demand.”
His Response on the Removal of Namaz Break in Assam Assembly
Regarding the removal of the Namaz break in the Assam Assembly, Sawant commented, “This government can take any decision. Balasaheb (Thackeray) always said that everyone should practice their religion in their religious places and not on the streets.”
Comments on Champai Soren and Lobin Hembrom Joining BJP
When asked about JMM leaders Champai Soren and later Lobin Hembrom joining BJP, Sawant remarked, “BJP has a lot of money. They have just opened a shop and are buying people. On one hand, Modi calls them corrupt, but on the other hand, he welcomes them into his party and gives them good positions.”
