After the murder of a migrant worker in Haryana, the political situation has intensified. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has directed her party leaders to visit the victim’s family and offer support. She has also assured the family of help and taken responsibility for them.

What Is the Case About?
A migrant worker from West Bengal was allegedly beaten to death by members of a cow protection group in Haryana on the suspicion that he had consumed beef. The incident took place on August 27 in Charkhi Dadri district. Five people, including two minors, have been arrested in connection with the case. The victim has been identified as Sabir Malik. According to the police, the accused lured Malik to a shop under the pretense of buying empty plastic bottles from him and then started beating him.

After local people intervened, the accused took Malik to another location and beat him again, leading to his death. Malik lived in a slum near Bandhara village and made a living by collecting garbage and empty bottles.
The accused, Abhishek, Mohit, Ravinder, Kamaljeet, and Sahil, suspected that Malik had eaten beef. A case has been registered against them under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
What Did Haryana’s Chief Minister Say?
Reacting to the incident, Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini said that cows are respected in the state but emphasized that such lynching incidents are “unfortunate.”
Over the past 10 years, there has been an increase in such cases in Haryana. In 2023, two Muslim men from Rajasthan’s Bharatpur district were allegedly kidnapped in a car in Haryana and then set on fire.
