Ayodhya, the city of temples, is set to host a grand Deepotsav (Diwali festival) from October 28 to 31, 2024. This year’s festival is particularly special because it will be the first Deepotsav after the historic installation of Lord Ram’s idol in his grand temple.
Since 2017, Ayodhya’s Sarayu River ghats have been illuminated with a record number of lamps during Diwali. However, this year’s celebration will be even more spectacular. The Uttar Pradesh government wants to make this festival the grandest yet, as it will be the first Deepotsav since Ram Lalla was installed in the new temple.

Over 25 lakh lamps will light up various ghats in Ayodhya, including Ram Ki Paidi and Naya Ghat. The festival will feature stunning lighting displays, including “Intelligent Dynamic Color Changing LED Decorative Panels” and “Multi-Media Projections,” to give Ayodhya an otherworldly glow.
Special Features of the Festival:
- Thematic Lit Arches: Welcome gates at Naya Ghat and Ram Ki Paidi will be decorated with “Thematic Lighted Arch Pillars.”
- Brightly Lit Pathways: Main roads and Bhakti Path will be adorned with vibrant lights and flowers. Bridges on routes to Gonda and Basti will also be decorated.
- Signage and Installations: Over 500 prominent locations in Ayodhya will feature attractive signage boards. Additionally, 20 artistic installations will be set up around the city.
- Cultural Programs: Each day of the festival will include various cultural events. More than 100 artists will perform at Ram Ki Paidi and other venues, with a 45-minute main program featuring different episodes from Lord Ram’s life.
- Virtual Reality Tours: Virtual reality platforms will offer virtual tours of major sites like the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple, Hanuman Garhi Temple, and others.
The Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department and Ayodhya Development Authority are working hard to complete these preparations. This year’s Deepotsav promises to be a memorable event, celebrating the rich heritage and divine presence of Ayodhya.
