A high school student in China has amazed people by creating a foldable smartphone at home. His invention has gone viral on social media, and people are praising his creativity. Lan Bowen, a student at Yiling High School in Yichang, Hubei, built this phone using a 3D printer.

He shared that while there are many foldable smartphones in the market, most of them fold inward. However, there is no vertical foldable phone that folds outward, with the screen visible on the outside. This idea inspired him to create a new type of vertical foldable smartphone.

Using a 3D Printer to Build the Frame

Bowen’s videos started appearing on Chinese social media on February 16. In the first video, he was seen making a 16mm thick foldable phone.

  • He used a 3D printer worth 24,000 yuan to create the phone’s frame.
  • Other components were taken from old phones at home.
  • Some materials were ordered online.

The biggest challenge he faced was making the touchscreen fully functional.

Many Design Changes Made

Bowen explained that, at first, the touchscreen did not work when the phone was unfolded.

  • He had to redesign the phone multiple times.
  • Many tests were conducted to fix the issues.
  • During testing, several screens were damaged before he could make the touchscreen work properly.

Although the phone is still in its early stages and needs further improvements, he is happy that it supports all basic smartphone functions.

Vivo is Impressed!

Bowen’s invention has created a huge buzz on social media. People are amazed at his technical skills. Even Chinese smartphone giant Vivo noticed his work!

Vivo commented on his video, saying:
“This is an amazing creation. We hope to see more such brilliant work from you!”

Bowen’s project proves that innovation has no limits and that young minds can create groundbreaking technology with the right passion and dedication! 🚀📱
