In Himachal Pradesh, there are 32,909 cancer patients and 3,138 people with asthma. These patients are receiving treatment at various government medical colleges and hospitals in the state. The information was provided by Health Minister Dr. Dhani Ram Shandil during the monsoon session of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly. This information was in response to a question asked by Indora MLA Malender Rajan.

Number of Patients in Different Hospitals:

  • Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla: 388 asthma patients and 11,343 cancer patients.
  • Dr. Rajendra Prasad Medical College, Kangra: 1,190 asthma patients and 19,135 cancer patients.
  • Yashwant Singh Parmar Government Medical College, Nahan: 285 asthma patients and 1,471 cancer patients.
  • Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College, Mandi Nerchowk: 680 asthma patients and 424 cancer patients.
  • Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College, Chamba: 34 asthma patients and 1 cancer patient.
  • Dr. Radhakrishnan Government Medical College, Hamirpur: 561 asthma patients and 535 cancer patients.

Free Medicines for Cancer Patients:
The Himachal Pradesh government provides 42 essential medicines for free to cancer patients in government hospitals. This was announced by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu during the first meeting of the State Advisory Board on Cancer and Palliative Care Program on August 5. These medicines include the trastuzumab injection, which is used for cancer treatment and costs around 40,000 rupees. Breast cancer patients need 18 such injections per year, costing the government about seven lakh rupees per patient.
