There has been a lot of discussion about Prime Minister Narendra Modi attending Ganpati Puja at the house of Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud. Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray also reacted to this, saying he is thankful to CJI Chandrachud for not giving Ganpati Bappa a further date, as PM Modi had to visit his home.

On Sunday, September 15, 2024, Uddhav Thackeray made this comment while addressing a rally in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. He said, “We all know that PM Modi visited CJI’s house, and this visit has received a lot of criticism. However, I want to thank the CJI for not giving Ganpati Bappa a further date, as PM Modi was supposed to visit his home that day.”

Thackeray also said that they are not just asking for justice for Shiv Sena in court, but also want to know if democracy will survive in the country. He expressed full trust in the judiciary but mentioned that if justice is not served on time, they will seek justice from the people, referring to the “court of the public.”

He also denied the criticism from the Mahayuti alliance that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government refused to fund the Marathwada Water Grid Project. Thackeray emphasized that the MVA had allocated Rs 1,100 crore for the project.

Thackeray’s remarks come in relation to Shiv Sena (UBT)’s petition that has been pending in the Supreme Court for two years. The petition challenges the decision of the Maharashtra Assembly Speaker, who declared Eknath Shinde’s faction as the real Shiv Sena and refused to disqualify Shinde and the other rebel MLAs. During that time, the official Shiv Sena symbol of “bow and arrow” was given to Shinde’s faction, while Thackeray’s faction was assigned the “torch” symbol.
